Great Commission vs. Greatest Command

The sad fact is that many view the great commission as more important than the greatest command of Jesus. They don't realize that you can't accomplish the great commission of "making disciples" when you don't understand what a disciple is supposed to look like. Jesus says that his disciples will be know for their love for each other. Those calling themselves "Christians" divide over mechanics of doing "church" while thinking they are doing good by creating environments conducive to church growth. Churches that have a history of division are the first to look for ways to grow to fill their pews. They follow man's guide to growth, not understanding that loving others is the only mark Jesus gives of discipleship and healthy growth will only follow when love is elevated to it's proper importance. Church growth that comes about through programs without first understanding the importance of love will never glorify God. It only makes the parking problem worse.
