"Where Do You Worship?"
Have you ever been asked the question "Where do you worship?" I'm sure most people just name the "church" where they "go." After all, they have been taught that the "church building "is the "place of worship" and that there are appointed times to accomplish the specific physical offerings of worship.
This is now my answer:
Going to worship was what the Jews did under the old covenant to maintain a relationship with God. I'm a believer in the "Good News" of Jesus Christ, which is that God offered Jesus to be the sacrifice for the sins of the world and that because of his sacrifice and our trust and rebirth, God comes to live in us. We no longer have to go to a place or offer physical sacrifices of worship to God in order to have this relationship and no other physical worship offerings can be made by us that will be accepted by God. Because of this grace, I'm now free to serve God by loving others everyday. Our lives of sacrifice to others becomes the spiritual worship that God seeks for us. Because we can't do anything for Him to make that relationship better, we trust His decision and Jesus' command that showing love to others is the way we show love to Him and His son, Jesus. This sacrificial love and the unity that it creates are now the offerings that are pleasing to God as we are transformed into the image of His son.
As a spiritual worshipper of God, I assemble with other Christians to build each other up to love and good works which edifies the whole body. This assembly is inspired by God's love for us as demonstrated by Jesus and allows us to demonstrate that love to each member of the body. I defer my own wants and freedoms for the good of the body, seeking what's good for others in order to keep unity and peace.
